Rural and Small Town Peer Outreach Project

This project aims to increase the harm reduction materials and resources available outside of Charlottetown by supporting people who use drugs in rural and small-town PEI become leaders within their networks and communities.

What do Peer Leaders Do?

  • They participate in learning and skill development opportunities related to harm reduction and safer drug use.

  • They distribute harm reduction tools and information (i.e., naloxone, safer injection kits, safer smoking kits, fentanyl test strips etc.) within their personal network and community.

  • They support the collection of used drug consumption equipment (i.e., needles, pipes, etc.) when/if possible.

  • They work with the Peer Team Coordinator to track the harm reduction materials distributed and the number of people served.

Do Peer Leaders Get Paid?

Yes, this is work! Peer Leaders earn $20/per hour for participating in training activities and providing peer to peer harm reduction outreach.

Peer Leaders work with the Peer Team Coordinator to develop flexible work schedules and communication plans.
