Workshops, Presentations, & Training

PEERS Alliance offers workshops, presentations, and training for the community at affordable rates. We believe that education and training are essential when it comes to offering inclusive services and creating inclusive spaces.

While we offer several standard workshops at an affordable rate, we are also able to offer workshops that are tailored and personalized to your needs. If you’re looking for a personalized workshop, please email Vanessa Bradley, our People & Culture Manager.

  • Brave Spaces 101

Brave Spaces 101 is an approximately 90 minute workshop that dives into what inclusivity and creating a brave space means for the 2SLGBTQ+ community and its allies. This educational session will explore:

    • The definitions of gender identity, sexual orientation and gender expression through the lens of privilege and power

    • How to develop a shared understanding of Brave Spaces

    • Identifying strategies for supporting 2SLGBTQ+ inclusivity

  • Getting It On and Staying Healthy

Sexual health is an important part of life. As a sex positive organization, we believe all consensual sexual activities are fundamentally healthy and pleasurable. This educational session provides the opportunity to explore consent and what safer sex can mean in the context of learning about the transmission of HIV and all STIs. Having knowledge that can help us reduce our risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) also helps us to stay well, make informed decisions, and have fun! This workshop is geared towards youth and adults of all ages and we can design workshops to meet the needs of your particular group.

  • Gender Identity and Client Safety

Navigating the changing world of gender identity and ensuring you are offering gender affirming services can be challenging. Understanding the complex challenges faced by those who are trans, transgender, nonbinary and/or gender nonconforming is essential to being able to create services and spaces that are welcoming, appropriate, and comfortable for people of all genders. This session offers insight into these challenges and concrete actions to ensure your services are welcoming, appropriate, and comfortable for all genders.

  • Gay Men's Health & HIV Prevention: It's Different Now

Gay and bisexual men account for 76% of all HIV/AIDS cases in Canada since records started being kept. The reasons for such disproportionate numbers (compared to the general population) are many and complex. As new HIV treatments, prevention strategies, and technologies have emerged, we have gained a much greater understanding of the virus as well as the social and environmental factors that contribute to both risk and resiliency. This workshop explores these changes and offers insights into new prevention approaches.

  • Hepatitis C & Our Communities

Hepatitis C (HCV) is a life-threatening virus that attacks the liver. HCV can cause liver fibrosis or scarring, which may lead to cirrhosis and ultimately liver cancer or death from liver failure. An estimated 220,697 to 245,987 Canadians are living with chronic Hepatitis C. That is the equivalent of six to seven people out of every 1,000 Canadians (or 0.6% to 0.7% of the total Canadian population). An estimated 44% of people living with chronic Hepatitis C infection are unaware of their status. Hepatitis C can be cured, but no vaccine exists to prevent infection. This education session explores:

    • Hepatitis C and how it affects the body

    • Activities that can put you at risk for HCV

    • Strategies to support people to reduce the risk of HCV

    • The impacts HCV on Prince Edward Island
